Snow Park is an excellent place to spend time with your family, friends, or even on your own. It has a wide variety of things to do for everyone in the family no matter what their age. If you are looking for something more active, they have plenty of activities that will keep you entertained all day long. Snow Park is a small grassy plot of land adjacent to Lake Merritt in Oakland’s Lakeside District, which has been used as an outdoor stage for performances and picnics since it was first constructed.
The tranquil atmosphere belies how often this area changes its use over time from serenity during daylight hours when visitors walk through flowers or read under trees surrounded by nature scenes like ducks wading on mudflats at sunset all while listening peacefully to children playing –to becoming something else entirely once darkness falls.
All About The Park
The Snow Park is a small grassy plot of land adjacent to Lake Merritt in Oakland’s Lakeside District, which has been used for multifarious purposes over the years. It originally included part of old Oakland's second cemetery (mostly emptied after 1863). Later on, this area held an estate that became home to both the zoo and museum before they came together as one installation known now simply by its acronym, Snow Museum.
Park Activities
Snow Park is a hidden gem in the heart of downtown Oakland. With thick green grass and towering oak trees, it has many great places for hanging out with friends or family members while enjoying nature's beauty from around picnic tables dotting its vast expanse. The toddler play area comes highly recommended by parents who want their kids close by when they're exploring this wonderful park on foot, even if you have little ones at home waiting patiently to be fed. Something is charming about seeing people witnessing here after work. No matter what time it may be, one thing remains certain, this place never seems crowded because most folks come visit during off-hours instead.
Staging And Celebration Venue
The Oakland Running Festival has been staging and celebrating at Snow Park since 2012. The annual marathon, starting with its first two years (2010-11) in City Hall Plaza was too small for the event's needs so it needed an updated location that could accommodate more runners while still providing security measures against weather conditions like heavy rains or high heat waves which would make running difficult on any pavement surface. A new home has now become available with the start/finish line at - 19th St x Harrison Street.
Park Facilities
Picnic Tables
Picnic tables are available for a nice, casual picnic. If you plan on staying the day or don't want to stand around at your table, Snow Park has some benches which also have backs up against two of the bars. There is one more spot with an umbrella that can be used as seating but this area is usually blocked off during busy days.
Playground
The Helix-shaped play structures with bright colors and modern shapes are perfect for children of all sizes. The contemporary teeter tot has space enough to seat four people, big or small. It also features an open area at ground level where kids can run around while being watched over by their parents from the safety fence that surrounds this larger playground outside its gates. With thick surfaces made out of a softer material than most other types, making them more bounce-friendly. The thick surface on both playgrounds is surrounded by lush, grassy fields.
