History

Founded in 1944, the Oakland Bible Institute by Bebe Patten became one of America's most influential religious colleges. Headed up under his control until 1980 when it received its first accreditation from WASC Senior College Commission and changed its name to Patten University.

In December 2012 following years of transition into secularization with parent company UniversityNow overseeing all aspects for profit including the admissions process while still focusing heavily on faith-based teaching - they have seen significant growth over recent years resulting not only increased enrollment but also awards won by students who used this opportunity as well.

Accreditation

Accreditation proclaims Patten University's competency in its programs, and it is a major consideration for most students. Patten University has been granted regional accreditation by the WASC Senior College and University Commission (WSCUC), one of six regional agencies that provide institutional accrediting services for higher education institutions throughout California and Hawaii.

Patten University's diploma programs are accredited by the California Bureau of Private Postsecondary Education (BPPE). Patten University is also authorized under federal law to enroll nonimmigrant alien students. Patten University has been granted full approval status by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) for its Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) program. Patten University is also approved to enroll nonimmigrant alien students in the U.S., by BPPE and SEVP, for its TEFL Certificate Program; was granted pre-approval status by the Department of Homeland Security's Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVIS) on September 29th, 2014. Patten University is also accredited by the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools (ACICS).

Admission

Admission requirements

  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.

  • Minimum of 18 years old to apply for freshman admission.

  • Must submit the SAT or ACT exam scores.

  • Patten University requires either a minimum of 60-semester units at an accredited college, university, high school with grades of C+ average in all subjects and courses mentioned above OR 16 years of education including four years of English grammar studies.
