History

Mills College, a prestigious institution for women's studies and education was founded in 1852 by Mary Atkins under the leadership of an Oberlin College graduate. In 1865 Susan Tolman Mills took over management when she married Cyrus who had graduated from Brown University with an able scholarship before becoming one half (and eventually sole owner)of this school renamed it to honor their legacy: The Mill Seminary or simply "Mills". It became incorporated on March 25th, 1877 at its Oakland location which continues today as homecoming freshmen enter pledging allegiance "to live faithfully together." President Mills served as the president of Wellesley College for 19 years and helped pave the way to women's equality in higher education. She is remembered not just for her many accomplishments, but also with a bronze plaque that still stands at Founders' Field where she once led students into battle against Harvard University. In 1890 after decades of leading classes under two different presidents as well,[24], Susan Mill took over being principal here at home school - The Woman’sociation Of YMCAs founder & first Honorable Treasurer (undergrads were eliminated). Her leadership saw an increase from 1/4 mile path marble walkway built onto campus grounds via private donation.

The first woman president of the college, Aurelia Henry Reinhardt was a noted educator and activist during World War I. She also established a laboratory school west of Mississippi for aspiring teachers in 1926 that is currently known as Mills College Children's School to accommodate its growing population which had grown from just seventy students at one time before she took office! Later on this same year (1926) it became possible to study computer science so long ago there were only men allowed here until 1974 when CarverComputer Science Building opened making history again with two female presidents running colleges at once.
