The Oakland Unified School District's Coliseum College Prep Academy (CCPA) is a public high school. The school's vision is to provide a rigorous academic program that meets each learner's unique needs, capitalizes on their passions, and connects their learning to the real world. It was created by a group of parents, students, and educators to provide a high-quality, college prep education for historically underserved students in the Coliseum neighborhood of East Oakland, CA.
Students at CCPA are taught to be Learners, Thinkers, Communicators, and Community Members. Coliseum College Prep Academy, or "CCPA," is a tiny public secondary school in East Oakland that consists of a seven-year combination middle and high school (grades 6-12). It is located on the Havenscourt campus. It is a part of the Oakland Unified School District, and its name comes from its vicinity to the Oakland Coliseum, as well as the Oakland A's baseball team.
During the 2012-13 academic year, Coliseum College Prep Academy served 451 students in grades 6 through 12. For the 2012-13 school year, 0.7 percent of CCPA's students were Asian, 0.7 percent were Native Hawaiian or Pacific Islander, 85.6 percent were Hispanic or Latino, and 12.6 percent were Black or African American. 36.1 percent of the pupils were identified as English Learners, while 47.0 percent were identified as Fluent-English-Proficient.
CCPA, Roots International Academy (a small Middle-only school), and a Health Center are all located on the Havenscourt site (La Clinica).
CCPA equips students to be change agents in their communities by integrating rigorous academic education with opportunities for community engagement. CCPA students represent Oakland's heritage as a leader in social justice movements and its record of perseverance in the face of adversity.
Despite its location in one of Oakland's poorest communities, CCPA boasts the highest college-going rate in the district. The school stresses academic and social/emotional support, community and family collaborations, an extended school day, and rigorous, targeted college counselling as part of its longitudinal approach to education. In 2019-20, CCPA began a seven-year growth plan that will see the school double in size by 2026, admitting a 130-student 6th grade class each year for the next seven years until total enrollment reaches 900.
CCPA strives to connect students to enriching summer opportunities and promotes participation in college \access and success organizations, as these experiences lay the foundation for success in college. • Code Nation • College Track • East Bay Consortium/Cal-SOAP • Learning AFAR/No Barriers Youth • METS (Trio) • Mission Bit • Oakland Promise • PiE Robotics • Students Rising Above • Summer Search • Upward Bound are some of the key partners.
CCPA has limited sports, few clubs, and no traditional extracurricular activities like drama, music, student gov’t, or yearbook due to the extended school day, internships, and college classes.
Due to COVID-19,fall sports have been postponed until December 2020.
