They believe that an exemplary education brings out each child's unique spark and potential at Lighthouse Community Public Schools (LCPS). LCPS serves over 1300 students in East Oakland through two high-achieving, free public charter schools: Lighthouse (K-12) and Lodestar (K-8 and rising to 9-12). Their objective is to educate diverse students for college, a career of their choice, and to be lifetime changemakers, with a vision of transforming our community with a family of excellent schools serving adolescents and families in Oakland.
LCPS is a leader in establishing innovative schools that provide great student outcomes where each child is at the center of their own learning, founded in our fundamental values of community, integrity, agency, love, and social justice and rooted in the EL Education model. They're also committed to furthering equality in our organization through a multi-faceted Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) strategy to promote fair educational outcomes for our students and their families, who are nearly all of color and live in poverty. Their DEI effort also encourages LCPS employees to participate in this important work with their coworkers.
Their schools serve as a beacon for public education, with each graduate fulfilling the promise of a better, brighter Oakland. Lighthouse graduates, almost all of whom are first-generation college students, are accepted to four-year universities in 95 percent of cases.
The mission of Lighthouse Community Public Schools is to prepare a diverse K-12 student population for college and a career of their choosing. Children develop their individual light inside the Lighthouse community, which is equal parts love and rigor.
