Fast Facts and History of the Vacaville Museum

  • The Vacaville Museum, a nonprofit organization dedicated to the preservation of Solano County's history and cultural heritage, opened its doors in 1981.

  • It has since served as a place for locals and visitors alike to learn about local life through interactive exhibits created by passionate volunteers.

  • It is one of the oldest museums in California’s central valley region (founded when Ronald Reagan was president!).

  • It is home to an extensive collection of artifacts ranging from agricultural equipment- still used today on many farms throughout this rural county.

  • It houses stately portraits that commemorate prominent figures such as Juan Bautista de Anza III who led his father across plains unknown at the time with their expedition party which included over 400 people plus livestock!

The Vacaville Museum is one of the few museums in Solano County dedicated to interpreting its rich history by:

  • Working hard every day to maintain and build partnerships with other historical groups, artists, art organizations like Jepson Herbarium or the Holt Atherton Center for a better understanding of this county's past.

  • These collaborations have led the museum into partnership with local schools such as The City Of Vacaville and San Francisco Art Institute which has helped its cause immensely by providing not only funding but also much-needed expertise on how best to present these pieces from its collection that will interest students of all ages!

  • Making Vacaville Museum the perfect destination for locals who want to learn about their history and culture, but it's also worth a visit if you're looking for something out of town.

  • Showcasing the museum’s eclectic mix of exhibits that span from Berryessa Valley all the way up north past Willis Jepson himself!

The Vacaville Museum Guild not only helps the museum maintain a steady flow of new exhibits but also hosts events every year to help raise funds for upkeep and future projects. Members are kept informed through electronic news blasts that highlight recent additions to the collection, as well as quarterly newsletters featuring curator interviews with our diverse community members who have donated pieces from their collections.
