Lagoon Valley Park

Lagoon Valley Park covers 314 acres and is surrounded by 700 acres of open space. It has hiking and biking trails, a centuries-old historical house, boating on Lagoon Lake, an off-leash dog park, and a disc golf course. Lagoon Valley also provides critical wetland habitat for park wildlife such as grazing deer and various bird species such as wild geese. The Lagoon Valley Conservancy collaborates with other open space organizations to protect the lower part of Lagoon Valley from development.

History of Lagoon Valley Park

The Pea Adobe is a significant historical monument in Lagoon Valley Park. The Pea family used to live in this historic mud brick building, which was built in 1842. The Peas were one of the first pioneering families to settle in Solano County after migrating from New Mexico. Prior to the pioneering and gold rush eras, much of this land was inhabited by Native Americans, who were reportedly pushed out by Catholic Missionaries in the early 1800s.

The Pea and Vaca families arrived in Sonoma in 1841 to meet General Mariano Vallejo, who agreed to give them a large swath of fertile land encompassing Lagoon Valley in exchange for their agreement to build homes, plant trees, and pasture livestock. The Vaca family sold much of their land to William McDaniel in 1850 and demanded that one square mile be set aside for the town of Vacaville. Although the Vaca family's adobe was destroyed in an earthquake decades later, the Pea family's adobe remained in the family until 1957, when it became part of the Vacaville city parks. Solano County Historical donated the Adobe and 1.5 acres surrounding it to the City of Vacaville in 1961.

If you visit the park on the first Saturday of each month, you can participate in a guided tour for a more in-depth educational experience.

Try the 20-mile loop that winds around the lake, scaling varying degrees of evaluations and slopes for something a little more difficult.
